Meet the Team

Máire Ní Dhomhnaill
Director / Counsellor
M.I.A.C.P, B.Ed H.Ec’s, Gestalt Therapist, Dip. in Psychology of Counselling (N.U.I.G.)
Máire joined The Family Centre on a part time basis in 2002. Since January 2007 she worked fulltime as part of the counselling team and from July 1st 2017 she is appointed as Director of the Service.

Prior to working in this area Máire has 20 years experience working in the disability services. Máire is a fully accredited member of The Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy A graduate of St Angela’s college in Sligo, Máire completed a diploma in the Psychology of Counselling in NUIG as well as a post graduate course in Gestalt Therapy in Galway.

Paula Sheridan
Counsellor/Psychotherapist
B.A in Counselling/Psychotherapist,  (ICHAS)
Paula joined the counselling team in the Family Centre in 2013.  She works with individuals and couples and is also a group facilitator.  

Paula holds a B.A Degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy Studies from the Irish College of Humanities and Applied Sciences (ICHAS).  She is an accredited member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. (B.A.C.P.)
Katie O’Malley
Systemic Family Therapist / Psychotherapist
Dip. Systemic Family Therapy, Reg. FTAI, Reg. ICP, Reg. EAP.
Katie joined the Family Centre Counselling Team in 2012 and works for four days a week at the Centre. She has previously worked in Dublin and New Zealand where she gained experience working with individuals, couples, children and families around abroad range of issues in the fields of social care and family therapy.

She qualified from the Mater Hospital, Dublin as a Systemic Family Therapist. Katie is a registered member of of the Irish Council for Psychotherapy (ICP), the Family Therapy Association of Ireland (FTAI) and the European Association for Psychotherapy (EAP).
Fiona Thomas
Counsellor
BSS, CQSW, Diploma in Counselling & Psychotherapy, MIACP
Fiona joined the Family Centre staff in 2001 and currently works on a part time basis as part of the counselling team.

Fiona uses her skills and experience specifically in the Mayo Suicide Bereavement Liaison service since July 2017.

Fiona studied Social Work in Trinity College and worked for several years as a social worker in Dublin before returning to the West. She completed her Counselling training with the Tivoli Institute, Dublin in 2001.
Davnet Grogan
Counsellor
MA Hons Psychotherapy, Adv Dip Counselling & Psychotherapy
Davnet joined the counselling staff in the Family Centre in 2022 and currently works on a pert time basis as part of the counselling team.

Davnet began her professional career as a nurse and following a career break returned to education and trained as a psychotherapist with the Tivoli Institute. On completion of her MA in psychotherapy Davnet worked for several years with Longford Counselling Services. More recently Davnet moved back to Mayo and has established a successful private practice.
Teresa Burns
Counsellor /Psychotherapist.
Teresa holds a B.A.(Hons.) Degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy Studies from the Irish College of Humanistic and Applied Sciences.

She is working in the Family Centre since2013. She is an accredited member of the Association of Professional Counsellors and Psychotherapists Ireland.
Sarah Sheridan
Social Prescribing Link Worker
BA Applied Social Care Sarah joined the Flourish Team at the Family Centre in January 2022. She works alongside Maura Horkan and Lisa Marren on the Flourish project. This is a social prescribing service connecting people with community groups, activities, organisations and statutory services to help them improve their health, wellbeing and social connectivity. She works in Claremorris and the surrounding areas. Sarah has over twenty-five years’ experience working with young people and families in the youth, education, and community settings. She is passionate about supporting people and promoting positive living to enhance well being and resilience. She is currently studying the “Creative Mindfulness teacher training” course with Louise Shanagher.
Lisa Marren
Social prescribing Link Worker

BA, MPH Public Health
Lisa joined the Family Centre in 2020 and works on the Flourish project. The Flourish project is a social prescribing service that aims to connect people with community groups, organisations, and statutory services for practical and emotional support to improve their health and well-being. Lisa covers the East Mayo area. Before working with the Flourish Project, she worked in Scotland within the NHS on a social prescribing project. She recently graduated from University College Cork with a Master of Public Health.
Marina Tuffy
Social Prescribing Link Worker
MIACP, Dip in Gestalt Therapy, Post Graduate Diploma, in Gestalt Therapy. Marina joined The Family Centre on a part time basis in November 2022. She works as part of the Flourish team in the Sláinte Care West Mayo Area, covering Achill, Ballycroy, and surrounding areas. Previously she worked as a Gestalt psychotherapist since2006. She was a facilitator on the Eden programme for seven years, working to support and give hope to those who believe life is not worth living. She was awarded Mayo’s Inspirational Woman of the year in 2016. This was to recognise the work she did over many years to support those without a voice, who lived in fear, who were excluded. This is still the work she does today, in a new way, connecting people to supports in their community, combat social isolation, and to promote health and wellbeing.
Maria Ward
Social prescribing Link Worker
Maria has a MA Music Therapy, BA Irish Music & Dance, Dip Community Music & Group Music Teaching, Cert Training, Delivery & Evaluation Maria Ward joined the Flourish team at  The Family Centre 2023 working part-time in the North Mayo area which is funded by Sláinte care. Prior to this Maria worked nationwide with a variety of community organisations to provide all-inclusive music workshops which promoted wellbeing & social connections in a fun environment. 

Maureen McGeeGarvey
Counsellor & Psychotherapist
Maureen, is a qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist, working towards her accreditation with the Irish Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists.   She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Holistic Counselling and Psychotherapy.  She joined the Family Centre team this year, and her holistic integrative approach is central to her work with clients.

Maureen, is a qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist, working towards her accreditation with the Irish Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists.   She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Holistic Counselling and Psychotherapy.  She joined the Family Centre team this year, and her holistic integrative approach is central to her work with clients.
